Now that the season is underway, Steve and Adam discuss how to use this season as your launchpad for the next and how your continued dedicated focus will help you reach the next level.
Routine: Settle into your routine for gamedays, practices, and workouts as well school or work. The predictability of your schedule will help you focus on your play.
Teammates: When getting used to new teammates, you may play with players and skill sets you aren’t used to which is a process. Allow yourself to adapt and develop with your new teammates. Remember: All players change and grow throughout a season.
Coaches: When getting used to new coaches be aware: all coaches are different. Adapting to a new coach’s styles and being able to flourish in all different situations is a skill.
Play: Focus on consistency, pace, and tempo – these are the easiest factors for you to control in your game so make sure they are always at the top of your mind.

Lifts: Schedule heavy lifts minimum of two days before games, this includes compound lifts such as squats, deadlifts, bench press and trap bar work.
Focus heavily on core and lower back strength as well as hip and ankle mobility to avoid injuries throughout a long season. This work can be done closer to gamedays.
Diet: You can increase carbohydrate intake through clean carbs such as sweet potato, oatmeal, whole wheat, or protein pasta. To help keep glycogen levels topped off for practices and games.
Try to avoid fast food when possible, especially late at night after games. (Looking at you Kuzma and Paquette.)

During the season, a lot is happening in the stands. It can be tough, but don’t get caught up in team politics and ice-time arguments.
A direct quote from a WHL scout: “It doesn’t matter how much ice time you get – it matters what you do with the time you do get.”
